President Cyril Ramaphosa has paid a visit to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) headquarters in Parktown, Johannesburg, where he met with the organisation’s senior leadership and praised its contribution to South African football.
The visit took place on Monday, 2 November 2026. Ramaphosa held discussions with PSL chairman Irvin Khoza and chief executive Mato Madlala, recognising the league’s organisation and its growing profile across Africa and beyond.
Ramaphosa applauds PSL leadership
The President reportedly congratulated the PSL leadership for the way it manages South Africa’s professional football competitions, describing the league as one of the continent’s leading football organisations.
The recent Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs was also highlighted during the visit, with Ramaphosa recognising the fixture’s appeal beyond South African borders.
According to a statement shared by the African National Congress (ANC), Ramaphosa paid a courtesy visit to the PSL offices and met with Khoza and Madlala.
The statement said the President praised the league’s leadership for running what it described as the most organised and successful league on the African continent.
It also highlighted his appreciation of the Soweto Derby’s significance on both the continental and international stages.
The recognition underlines the importance of the PSL as a major sporting institution in South Africa, with the Soweto Derby continuing to serve as one of the country’s most prominent football occasions.
