SAFA President Danny Jordaan led a delegation to Stellenbosch to pay emotional respects to the family of late Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana star Jayden Adams.

A heavy cloud of grief continues to hang over the South African football fraternity. On Monday, a high-ranking South African Football Association (SAFA) delegation, led by President Danny Jordaan, traveled to Idas Valley in Stellenbosch to visit the family home of the late Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Jayden Adams.

The exceptionally gifted 25-year-old playmaker tragically passed away just days after returning home from the historic 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, where he helped South Africa reach the knockout stages for the very first time.

A Tragic Sequence of Heartbreak

Speaking during the emotional visit, Danny Jordaan expressed the collective shock of the nation, reflecting on the immense personal tragedy Adams faced even while wearing the national colors abroad.

  • World Cup Triumph & Private Pain: While in the United States representing Bafana Bafana, Jayden and the squad were informed of the heartbreaking passing of his grandmother.
  • A Rising Star Cut Short: Having successfully risen from the ranks of Stellenbosch FC to champion club Mamelodi Sundowns, Adams had firmly established himself as one of the country’s most promising soccer exports.

SAFA President Danny Jordaan: “We were shocked and saddened when informed about the passing of Jayden this weekend, one of the talented footballers in our country… We express our sincere condolences to the family and the football families of Stellenbosch and Sundowns. A huge loss to our country’s football. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

“Honestly, I Have No Words” — Team Management in Shock

Bafana Bafana Team Manager Vincent Tseka, who accompanied the delegation to support the family, admitted that the sudden loss of the young midfielder has left the national team camp completely devastated.

“I am still in shock and do not know how to digest this tragedy. Honestly, I have no words,” Tseka expressed somberly.

Adams is survived by his immediate family, his partner, and his young daughter. Family spokesperson Brendine Johnson confirmed that the details regarding his official memorial service and funeral are still being finalized and will be shared with the public in due course.
