Two suspects have been remanded in custody for the murder of Lekompo star Fuego

The Polokwane Magistrates Court has taken a firm stance in the tragic killing of rising Lekompo sensation Adifele Lastborn Maimela, known professionally as Fuego. On Thursday, April 9, 2026, the court ordered that the two men accused of his murder remain behind bars as the investigation continues.

The suspects, identified as Masheleng July Mashishi and Karabo Kgoroshi Lucas Mothiba, face grave charges following the fatal incident that occurred in Polokwane, Limpopo, on April 7.

A Community in Mourning

The courtroom was filled with a somber atmosphere as fans, fellow musicians, and representatives from the Limpopo Artists Movement (LAM) gathered to support Fuego’s grieving family. The collective relief was palpable when the court denied the suspects immediate bail.

“It’s such a relief that the two suspects did not get bail. We really welcome the decision,” stated LAM chairman Mphoza Mashabela, who confirmed the organization is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

The Fatal Confrontation

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba, the tragedy unfolded at a residence on Magazyn Street. Authorities allege the following:

  • The Dispute: Mashishi and Mothiba arrived at the home where Fuego was staying with his girlfriend.
  • Escalation: An argument broke out between the artist and the duo, which quickly intensified as others joined the fray.
  • The Shooting: During the chaos, a firearm was drawn and Fuego was struck by gunfire.

A Bizarre Turn of Events

In a startling twist, the suspects reportedly went to the Polokwane Police Station themselves shortly after the shooting. They allegedly claimed they had opened fire on individuals they believed were involved in a kidnapping. However, their story crumbled when the police received a simultaneous report from a local hospital confirming that a gunshot victim—Fuego—had been admitted. The two were arrested on the spot.

What’s Next?

The suspects have been remanded for eight days. They are scheduled to reappear in court on Thursday, April 16, 2026, for a formal bail application.
