Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus has signaled a clear intent for the future, naming a dynamic 40-man squad for the national team’s second in-person alignment camp. While the group features established heavyweights, the spotlight is firmly on two rising stars earning their first-ever call-ups.
The New Guard: Mahashe and Siyaya
The most significant news from the selection is the inclusion of two uncapped talents:
- Sibabalwe Mahashe: The Lions’ powerhouse loose forward, known for his work rate and physicality in the URC.
- Zekhethelo Siyaya: The Sharks’ teenage sensation who has rapidly become one of the most talked-about prospects in the country.
Erasmus emphasized that with several veterans currently sidelined by injury, this camp is crucial for integrating young talent into the Springbok structures ahead of a massive 2026/27 cycle.
Squad Breakdown
The camp, running from May 19 to May 21, consists of 25 forwards and 15 backs, including 10 uncapped players. Notable inclusions also see the return of Embrose Papier, Francke Horn, and Henco van Wyk to the alignment setup.
Total Uncapped Call-ups: Paul de Villiers, Bathobele Hlekani, Francke Horn, Sibabalwe Mahashe, Riley Norton, Haashim Pead, Zekhethelo Siyaya, Emmanuel Tshituka, Henco van Wyk, and Jaco Williams.
