Media mogul Anele Mgudlwa's Rose and Oaks Media has officially acquired production giant Rapid Blue from BBC Worldwide, bringing iconic formats home.

South African media landscape history has officially been rewritten. Radio icon and television mogul Anele Mgudlwa is cementing her status as an entertainment powerhouse after her production company, Rose and Oaks Media, officially acquired legendary production giant Rapid Blue from BBC Worldwide.

The massive acquisition represents a monumental “full-circle” moment for African broadcasting, effectively bringing home one of the continent’s most decorated and historically significant production stables.

The Power Trio Behind the Deal

The groundbreaking transaction was spearheaded by the Rose & Oaks Media founding triumvirate:

  • Anele Mgudlwa (CEO)
  • Frankie du Toit
  • Paul Buys

Operating at the highest level for the past nine years, this team has engineered massive local and international hits. Their portfolio includes critically acclaimed cinematic features like Ludik, The Last Ranger, and Don’t, Let’s Go To The Dogs Tonight. On the unscripted front, they are the masterminds behind the record-breaking hit The Masked Singer South Africa, which has already been renewed for an explosive third season and is currently in active production.

Returning a Television Empire Back to African Soil

Founded by visionary television pioneers Duncan Irvine and Kee-Leen Irvine, Rapid Blue was bought by the BBC in 2016. For decades, the entity has been the premium engine room behind South Africa’s most iconic reality and format television, including:

In the CEO’s Words: A Vision for Global Dominance

Reflecting on the acquisition, Anele Mgudlwa emphasized that this is a cultural reclamation just as much as a business deal:

“We believe the future of global storytelling will increasingly be shaped by African voices. Bringing Rapid Blue back home allows us to honour its incredible history while building something even bigger for the future. Over the last nine years, we have built a company capable of delivering across scripted, unscripted, film, formats and live production at the highest level. Rapid Blue significantly accelerates that vision.”
