Rassie Erasmus reveals a bold, new-look Springbok team to face Scotland at Loftus. Handre Pollard starts with Pieter-Steph du Toit named captain.

True to his reputation for tactical innovation and bold squad rotation, Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus has rung the changes, naming a drastically overhauled starting lineup to take on Scotland this Saturday at Loftus Versfeld.

Following a clinical 45-21 opening victory over England, Erasmus has made 10 starting personnel adjustments to manage the squad’s heavy workload while building international depth ahead of the high-intensity winter schedule.

The Retained Core & Leadership

Only five stars retain their starting spots from the England masterclass. Pieter-Steph du Toit continues to wear the captain’s armband in the absence of the injured Siya Kolisi, anchoring a loose trio alongside youth sensation Paul de Villiers (earning his second Test appearance) and powerhouse Evan Roos.

Center Jesse Kriel, utility back Damian Willemse, and second-rower Ruan Nortje complete the list of players retained in the starting XV.

Fresh Look: Highlighting the Changes

  • Loftus Halfback Fusion: In a massive treat for the Pretoria crowd, local Vodacom Bulls pairing Handré Pollard and Embrose Papier link up as the starting halfback duo.
  • The Reimagined Back Three: Aphelele Fassi marshals the game from fullback, flanked by lethal finishers Edwill van der Merwe and Canan Moodie, who transitions from the bench.
  • A Brand-New Front Row: An entirely fresh trio takes the physical burden upfront, featuring Boan Venter, Johan Grobbelaar, and Wilco Louw, with Cobus Wiese stepping up to partner Nortje at lock.
  • The 6-2 Bomb Squad: Erasmus has opted for a physical 6-2 split on the bench, loaded with rising stars like Vincent Tshituka, Jan-Hendrik Wessels, and Quan Horn ready to inject late explosive energy.
