Award-winning artist Sho Madjozi has shared profound insights into her decision to become a mother on her own terms, identifying herself as a “choice mom”—a woman who consciously opts to have a child without being in a romantic relationship.

Redefining Motherhood
Speaking on the Motherhood Network podcast, the “John Cena” hitmaker explained the distinction between being a single mother and a “choice mom.”
“I chose to be a mom,” she said. “I am a huge supporter of single mothers and empowering them. However, being a choice mom is different. A single mom’s world deals a lot with recovery and repair from baby daddy and the conflict that comes from breaking up with your partner.”
Madjozi elaborated that her path to motherhood was unconventional because she prioritized having a child over finding a partner. “It’s not the conventional way you’d think of having a child. I did not choose a man, I chose a child. I wanted to have a child, I was not interested in having a relationship,” she explained.

The Dynamic with Her Child’s Father
Madjozi confirmed that while she and her child’s father are not romantically involved, they maintain a positive and respectful understanding.
“I got a father of my child who is kind and gives me space. We have a great understanding. He’s fantastic. We’re having the best time. We don’t have to be in each other’s space, I don’t owe him,” she stated, highlighting the freedom in their arrangement.
She further noted that she finds contemporary dating challenging and prefers to parent alone rather than commit to an unhappy relationship, embracing the “privilege of not needing a relationship” or “a man.”

Stepping Away from the Industry
The star admitted that motherhood has significantly shifted her priorities, leading her to take a break from her professional life.
“I’m at a point right now where I don’t really want to make music. I don’t want to be in the industry currently,” she confessed, indicating a temporary shift away from her music career to focus on her current phase of life.
