South African actor Thapelo Mokoena has been distinguished with the prestigious Actor of the Year award at the 10th edition of the EMY Africa Awards, held in Ghana.
The celebrated actor shared his excitement with fans, describing his recognition at the widely respected pan-African ceremony as an “incredible honour” and an “unforgettable weekend in Accra.”
“I love what I do, & I’m super grateful for the acknowledgment,” Mokoena stated, still grappling for words to capture the significance of the moment.
Mokoena extended deep gratitude to the organizers, including founder Brother Kojo Soboh and the entire team at the EMY Africa Awards, noting his wonderful first-time experience in Accra and promising that it “definitely [won’t be] the last.”
The actor also made a point to thank those who supported his appearance and career:
- His designer, Choc of @chocolateclothesglobal, for his standout ensemble on the night.
- His friend and creative leader, @thebeikalafeng, acknowledging that their reconnection in Ghana was a highlight of the trip, crediting him for consistently “speaking life” into him.
- All the fans and audiences who continue to support his work.
Upon landing back in South Africa, Mokoena joked he would grab a quick nap before immediately heading back to set.
