Media personality Andile Ncube has publicly questioned the fading relevance of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) following a noticeably poor artist turnout at the 31st edition of the event.
Taking to social media platform X, Ncube voiced his disappointment, suggesting that the prestigious ceremony has lost its lustre among musicians.

Questioning the Lack of Interest
Ncube openly asked whether artists still value attending the SAMAs, reminiscing about the event’s former status as a career highlight:
“Seeing the number of absent artists, do you guys not care anymore?” he wrote.
He reflected on a time when receiving a SAMA invitation was considered one of the biggest honors in the local music industry, describing the event as once holding the title of the “hottest ticket in town.”
Plea for a Fresh Revival
The presenter argued that the awards show, while acknowledging it is broadcast on “the best platform available,” is in dire need of a fresh strategy. He specifically pointed to the need for renewed marketing and promotional efforts to restore the excitement and prestige that have diminished over the years.
Ncube’s comments serve as a call to action for the organizers to revive the ceremony’s appeal and ensure greater participation from the industry it is meant to celebrate.
