Legacy of a “Triple-Threat” Performer

Imani Dia Smith was a rising star from a young age, performing in The Lion King on Broadway from 2011 to 2012. Her family and colleagues remember her as a “vibrant” and “fierce” talent who excelled in singing, dancing, and acting.

She is survived by:

  • Her three-year-old son, who now faces life without his mother.
  • Her parents, Monique Rance-Helper (a well-known Broadway and film hairdresser) and Rawni Helper.
  • Two younger siblings and a large extended community.

Community Support: The GoFundMe Campaign

To assist with the overwhelming costs of this tragedy, Smith’s aunt, Kira Helper, launched a GoFundMe campaign. The funds are earmarked for:

  • Funeral and memorial expenses.
  • Trauma therapy for her son, siblings, and parents.
  • Legal and administrative costs.
  • Long-term care for her young son and her beloved dog, Kuro.

Status Update: As of late December, the campaign has raised over $78,000, surpassing its initial $75,000 goal, reflecting the massive outpouring of love for the former star.
