Coach Cedric Kaze was full of praise for the debutant, but he made one thing clear: Mabaso didn’t get his minutes because of his reputation, but because of his consistency.
“In South Africa, we give too many gifts to young players,” Kaze remarked after the game. “But with Mabaso, we wanted to see if he could be consistent. He did well in the Netherlands, he led the DDC, and he showed character in the Carling Cup. He’s a player who isn’t scared; he doesn’t shy away from experienced opponents.”
