It was a day of double celebration for Kaizer Chiefs as they secured a vital 1-0 win over Zambian giants Zesco United in the CAF Confederation Cup, while simultaneously honoring their “Golden Boy,” Mduduzi Shabalala, for reaching 100 senior appearances.
The 22-year-old playmaker was presented with a commemorative “100” jersey by Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr. ahead of the clash. Shabalala, who rose through the Naturena academy, reached the century mark in record time since his debut in 2022.
The Journey to the Century
Shabalala’s path hasn’t been without its hurdles. Breaking into the first team at 18, he has navigated through several coaching changes and a period of high pressure for the club. Reflecting on the milestone, Shabalala remained humble:
“Reaching 100 appearances for Kaizer Chiefs means a lot to me. It was a dream to play for this club when I was young. I’m happy the club gave me the opportunity to showcase my talent; even though it hasn’t been easy, I’m grateful for every moment.”
Key Career Stats as of Feb 2026

- Role under Nabi: Shabalala has become a tactical anchor for coach Nasreddine Nabi, starting 37 games under the Tunisian tactician—more than under any other previous Chiefs manager.
With a Nedbank Cup title already under his belt from last season, Shabalala’s next goal is to help lead Amakhosi back to the summit of the Betway Premiership and deep into the continental stages.
