The Fulbright Program is designed for high-achieving South African graduates ready to take their postgraduate studies to a global stage. Whether you are looking for a full degree or a specialized research year, the FFSP provides a comprehensive support package including visas, health insurance, tuition, and cultural orientation.
1. Choose Your Pathway
There are two primary tracks available for South African applicants:
| Program | Best For… | Duration/Benefit |
| Visiting Student Researcher (VSR) | Current PhD students enrolled in SA | 1 year of research at a U.S. university (NRF students highly encouraged). |
| Master’s or PhD Scholarships | Graduates seeking a full U.S. degree | Full tuition coverage for 2 years for a single degree. |
- Note: MBA, clinical medical, and veterinary studies involving patient contact are excluded.
2. Eligibility Requirements
To be considered, you must meet the following baseline criteria:
- Citizenship: You must be a South African citizen or a permanent resident (minimum 5 years).
- Residency: You cannot be currently living in the U.S. or hold dual U.S. citizenship.
- Academic Background: * For Master’s: 4-year Bachelor’s OR a 3-year Bachelor’s + Honors.
- For PhD: A completed Master’s degree.
- For VSR: Must remain registered at your home South African university.
