South African media powerhouse Anele Mdoda is making headlines following the conclusion of a legal battle at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA). The dispute, brought forward by a former domestic worker, Thuleleni Florence Mlalazi, centered on allegations of unfair dismissal and a complex financial disagreement involving a vehicle.
While the matter has reached a settlement, the details emerging from the case highlight a deeply fractured working relationship between the high-profile broadcaster and her former staff member.
The Settlement Terms
According to recent reports, the two parties reached a financial agreement totaling R90,000. The settlement structure reportedly included:
- An initial upfront payment of R20,000 made in August 2025.
- The remaining balance to be cleared through scheduled monthly installments.
Inside the Dispute: Dismissal and the “Vehicle Conflict”
The core of the disagreement involved two major points of contention:
- The Dismissal: Mlalazi claimed she was fired following an incident where she initially failed to collect Mdoda’s child from a soccer event on her scheduled day off—despite eventually fetching the child. Reports suggest that Mdoda’s husband, Bonelela Buzza James, was also a key figure in the decision to terminate her employment.
- The Car Arrangement: In a complicated twist, Mlalazi alleged that she was persuaded to trade in her personal vehicle for a new one, with the costs deducted from her salary. She further claimed the vehicle was later registered under Mdoda’s name without her authorization, a move that significantly escalated the conflict.
Mdoda’s Counter-Claims
Despite agreeing to the settlement, Anele Mdoda has not remained silent. The 947 breakfast host has reportedly disputed Mlalazi’s version of events, leveling serious accusations of her own. Mdoda maintains the dismissal was entirely justified, citing alleged misconduct, theft, extortion, and threats made by the former employee.
While the CCMA settlement provides a legal conclusion to the payment dispute, the conflicting narratives between “unfair treatment” and “justified dismissal” continue to spark conversation across social media.
