After a spectacular triple-digit opening masterclass against Uruguay, the Junior Springboks face a much steeper mountain on Thursday night as they take on tournament hosts Georgia in Tbilisi.
With a shot at history on the line, South Africa’s U20 side is hunting for their eighth consecutive World Championship victory—a winning streak the program has never achieved before. However, Coach Kevin Foote isn’t taking the hosts lightly. Georgia is still smarting from a heartbreaking one-point loss to Wales and will be backed by a fierce, partisan home crowd.
To manage the quick turnaround and test squad depth, Foote has rang the changes, rotating 11 new faces into the starting lineup.
Dynamic Squad Rotation
Among the few retaining their spots from the opening blowout are powerhouse second-row JD Hattingh and the electric backline trio of Hendré Schoeman, Luan Giliomee, and Markus Muller. Giliomee makes a tactical positional switch, sliding from fullback to pull the strings at flyhalf.
Captain Siphosethu Mnebelele returns to anchor the front row at hooker, packing down alongside props Oliver Reid and Danie Kruger.
Georgia has countered with six tactical changes of their own—including an overhauled propping department—priming this clash to be a brutal, physical battle upfront.
