Massive injury worries hit the Springboks. Find out the latest fitness updates on Siya Kolisi, Eben Etzebeth, and Ox Nche ahead of the Scotland clash at Loftus.

The Springboks’ medical room is filling up fast. Following a brutal opening Test against England, head coach Rassie Erasmus faces a massive selection headache as a wave of injuries threatens to disrupt South Africa’s lineup for this Saturday’s blockbuster clash against Scotland at Loftus Versfeld.

The Boks were already forced to adapt on the eve of the England match when powerhouse forwards Siya Kolisi and Eben Etzebeth were late withdrawals. Now, the squad faces a race against time to patch up several key players.

The Springbok Casualty Ward: Who’s In, Who’s Out?

  • Eben Etzebeth (Lock): Contending with another head knock. Given his history with concussions, management is highly unlikely to rush him back into the mix.
  • Siya Kolisi (Flanker/Captain): Battling a hamstring strain. “For Siya, if it’s a grade one, then there’s a chance. If it’s a grade two, then probably not,” Erasmus noted.
  • Ox Nche (Prop): Set for a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury. Erasmus shared a grim outlook: “When a guy like Ox says he can’t go on, there’s something not great.”
  • Andre Esterhuizen (Centre): Suffered a neck blow and a confirmed concussion during the match and will undergo strict assessment protocols.

Reinforcements on the Horizon?

While the injury list is daunting, there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Lood de Jager could be fit in time to bolster the second row, though Franco Mostert remains about two weeks away. Erasmus has also highlighted Cobus Wiese and Vincent Tshituka as ready-and-waiting cover.

Expect an official squad update early this week, with the highly anticipated team announcement likely pushed back to give the wounded stars every chance to prove their fitness.
