The missing piece of the puzzle is back. Master tactician Finn Russell has officially been passed fit to return to the Scotland starting XV for their historic Nations Championship clash against the world champion Springboks at Loftus Versfeld this Saturday.

The 33-year-old British & Irish Lions flyhalf missed Scotland’s opening-round victory over Argentina in Córdoba due to a stubborn calf strain, but his return injects massive world-class experience into Gregor Townsend’s side. Russell replaces Tom Jordan, who shifts to a heavily reshuffled Scottish bench.

Townsend Shakes Up the Tight Five

In a bid to halt a brutal nine-match losing streak against the four-time World Cup winners, head coach Gregor Townsend has made three vital changes to the team that conquered Argentina:

  • The Flyhalf Switch: Finn Russell reclaims the No. 10 jersey from Tom Jordan.
  • Engine Room Reinforcements: Tighthead anchor Zander Fagerson replaces Elliot Millar Mills, while towering lock Gregor Brown gets the nod ahead of Jonny Gray.
  • The Captaincy: Inside-centre powerhouse Sione Tuipulotu retains the captain’s armband to lead the charge in Pretoria.
  • A Risky Bench Split: With no specialist scrumhalf named on the bench, winger Jamie Dobie is tasked with covering starting No. 9 Ben White if needed.

This historic match marks the first time Scotland will ever play a Test match at Loftus Versfeld, and their first trip to South African soil since suffering a 55-6 drubbing in Gqeberha 12 years ago.
