The daughter of the late, legendary South African cinematic icon Connie Chiume is stepping completely out of the shadows of grief and expectations to boldly claim her own global destiny. Actress Nothando Mabuza-Chiume has officially launched a public BackaBuddy crowdfunding campaign titled “Road to Los Angeles,” appealing to South Africans to help back her journey to the United States this October.
The fundraiser aims to secure R150,000 to cover her tuition at a prestigious Performing Arts Conservatory Program, alongside critical relocation and settling costs.
Stepping Beyond Grief and Quiet Struggles
Taking to Instagram to share her vulnerability, Nothando penned an incredibly raw message detailing the immense emotional weight she has carried in private since the passing of her mother.
“I’ve gone back and forth about sharing this… but I’ve learned that sometimes faith requires you to be seen,” Nothando shared courageously. “For a long time, I’ve carried things quietly. Grief. Pressure. Expectations. The assumption that I’m ‘okay’… that I have everything I need. But the truth is, I’m still building, still healing, still finding my way.”
Answering a Deeper Call to Heal in LA
Nothando revealed that a brief visit to California two months ago completely re-aligned her spiritual compass. Stepping onto American soil provided a sense of peace and creative clarity she hadn’t felt in years, prompting her to take a massive leap of faith.
- The Academic Goal: Return to LA this October to intensely study scriptwriting and acting, complete her qualification, and work toward her Associate’s Degree.
- The Emotional Mission: “More than anything, this is about answering a deeper call to rebuild my life, my purpose, and my spirit… This journey is deeply personal. It’s about choosing life again. Choosing healing. Choosing myself.”
- The Financial Breakdown: Funds will go directly toward Conservatory registration fees, accommodation deposits, visa procurement, travel preparation, and core study materials.
Admitting that asking for financial assistance from the public is incredibly daunting, the actress stated that she is actively trusting God to meet her through the generosity of people who believe in her talent and her family’s enduring legacy.
