Orlando Pirates have secured veteran midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula with a new one-year deal keeping him at the club until June 2027.

Despite previously hinting that he would hang up his boots if Orlando Pirates clinched the league title, veteran midfield marshal Makhehlene Makhaula is not ready to walk away from the beautiful game just yet.

The Buccaneers have reportedly rewarded the 36-year-old defensive midfielder with a new one-year contract extension, securing his presence at the Mayfair-based club until June 2027.

A Crucial Cog in Ouaddou’s Machine

Initially finding himself on the fringes at the start of last season under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou—who heavily favored youth star Sihle Ntuli—Makhaula’s patience and professionalism paid off. Following a long-term injury to Ntuli, the experienced campaigner stepped back into the starting lineup, featuring in 18 matches across all competitions and anchoring the midfield during the final stretch that saw Pirates end their 14-year league title drought.

Insiders reveal that the technical team values his:

  • Leadership and Locker Room Presence: Serving as a crucial bridge between the coaching staff and the younger squad members.
  • Elite Defensive Work Ethic: Unrivaled ball-winning abilities and tactical discipline in transition.
  • Continental Experience: Crucial depth as the Sea Robbers prepare to navigate a taxing domestic title defense alongside a highly demanding CAF Champions League campaign.
