Kaizer Chiefs have been handed a clear transfer directive ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season: sign Tshegofatso Mabasa.
Former Amakhosi winger turned outspoken football analyst, Junior Khanye, believes the former Orlando Pirates striker is exactly what the Glamour Boys need to solve their attacking puzzles under new leadership. Mabasa is currently a free agent following the conclusion of his loan spell with Stellenbosch FC.
Why Mabasa Fits the Amakhosi Blueprint
Speaking to iDiski Times, Khanye emphasized that Chiefs’ tactical style requires a lethal, intelligent front-man who can convert the chances the team creates.
“The way the club is playing, they need a sharp striker—someone dynamic who understands the basics of football. Someone who can receive the ball and create space for himself,” Khanye argued.
Despite flying somewhat under the radar due to Orlando Pirates’ recent success without him, Mabasa proved his elite caliber during his stint in the Western Cape.
“He went to Stellenbosch and still showed who he is, breaking Sundowns supporters’ hearts and scoring week in and week out there. So, I’d bring in Mabasa,” Khanye added.
A Shifting Attack in Naturena
Kaizer Chiefs, currently wrapping up their pre-season camp in Spain under Fernando Da Cruz, are undergoing a massive squad overhaul. While they have secured defensive reinforcements in Renaldo Leaner and Thabo Moloisane, their frontline remains a work in progress.
With Gaston Sirino and Tashreeq Morris having departed, and Ashley Du Preez heavily linked with a move away, space is opening up. While Chiefs still boast options like Khanyisa Mayo, Etiosa Ighodaro, Flavio Silva, and starlet Wandile Duba, a proven domestic goalscorer like Mabasa on a free transfer could be a masterstroke before the window slams shut next month.
