South African football is in mourning following the tragic passing of former Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United, and RC Strasbourg midfielder Michael “Ace” Nkambule at the age of 37. The Daveyton-born star passed away on Friday, 7 August 2026, after succumbing to severe spinal cord injuries sustained in a car accident two weeks prior while traveling from Polokwane to Johannesburg.

Family spokesperson Siyabonga Moloi confirmed his passing at Far East Rand Hospital following specialist surgery and intensive care treatment at Johannesburg General Hospital.
