Kaizer Chiefs have added five new players to their squad, but one of the latest arrivals is already under scrutiny from supporters following his early appearance in the MTN8.
None of the new signings featured in Chiefs’ opening Betway Premiership victory over Kruger United, but coach Nasreddine Nabi’s successor, Cedric Da Cruz, is expected to gradually introduce the newcomers as the season progresses.
Five New Faces at Kaizer Chiefs
Chiefs have strengthened across several areas of the squad, bringing in a mix of experience and emerging talent.
Khanyisa Mayo
Mayo has made his move to Chiefs permanent from CR Belouizdad following a previous loan spell. The reported transfer fee is close to R9.8 million, making him one of the more significant additions to the squad.
Adolf Mtasingwa
The 27-year-old defensive midfielder arrives from Azam FC for an undisclosed fee and becomes the first Tanzanian player to join Kaizer Chiefs.
Mtasingwa brings plenty of international and overseas experience, having spent six seasons playing in Iceland, Norway and Finland. He returned to Tanzania in 2024 and helped Azam finish third in the domestic league last season. He also serves as vice-captain of the Tanzanian national team.
Thabo Moloisane
Moloisane gives Chiefs valuable PSL experience after establishing himself as an important player for Stellenbosch FC.
The versatile defender primarily operates at centre-back but can also fill in at right-back, giving the coaching staff another tactical option.
Renaldo Leaner
Chiefs have also strengthened their goalkeeping department with the arrival of Renaldo Leaner from Sekhukhune United.
The 28-year-old goalkeeper stands at 1.87m and has already earned a Bafana Bafana cap, adding experience to Chiefs’ options between the posts.
Langelihle Phili
The final addition is 21-year-old winger Langelihle Phili, who is expected to make the move from Stellenbosch.
Phili’s pace and direct attacking style could provide Chiefs with another threat in wide areas.
Why Are Chiefs Fans Already Questioning Mtasingwa?
While the signings have generated plenty of discussion, Adolf Mtasingwa has attracted particularly strong criticism from some Chiefs supporters.
Comments on social media questioned whether the midfielder has the quality required to play for one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.
That criticism intensified following his appearance in the MTN8, with some supporters calling on the club’s recruitment team to explain the decision to sign him.
However, it’s still far too early to make a definitive judgement on any new player. Mtasingwa is adapting to a new league, new teammates and a new tactical environment — and Chiefs fans will ultimately judge him on what he produces over the course of the season.
