Thapelo Mokobodi, Ghampani Lungu and Kabelo Kgositsile are among the Orlando Pirates new signings making an early impact for the Buccaneers.

Orlando Pirates have made a strong start to the new season, and several of their summer arrivals are already showing signs that they could become important players for the Buccaneers.

With the club sitting at the top end of the Betway Premiership, head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has been given plenty to think about as his new-look squad continues to settle.

Among the newcomers making the strongest early impressions are Thapelo Mokobodi, Ghampani Lungu and Kabelo Kgositsile.

Mokobodi grabs his opportunity

Mokobodi received his first start for Pirates in the recent clash against Chippa United, and the young midfielder took full advantage of the opportunity.

Playing with confidence, he looked comfortable in possession and showed composure while helping Pirates control the midfield.

His performance could not have come at a better time for the youngster, with Sihle Nduli and Thalente Mbatha currently sidelined by injuries.

That could open the door for Mokobodi to earn more minutes in the coming matches.

Regular game time would not only give the midfielder an opportunity to develop his confidence but could also accelerate his adaptation to the demands of playing for one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.

Lungu already delivering goals

Another new arrival attracting plenty of attention is Ghampani Lungu.

The Zambian has already found the back of the net twice, making an immediate impact in the final third.

What has impressed supporters is not only the goals themselves but the timing of Lungu’s contributions. He has shown a willingness to take responsibility when Pirates need someone to produce a decisive moment.

His versatility has also been a major talking point. Lungu has demonstrated that he can operate in different attacking and defensive positions, giving Ouaddou another tactical weapon.

If his early form continues, Lungu could quickly become one of the Buccaneers’ most important attacking outlets.

Kgositsile showing flashes of quality

Kabelo Kgositsile has also provided plenty of encouragement whenever he has been introduced from the bench.

While his finishing and final decision-making still require some refinement, the youngster has already demonstrated several qualities that could make him a dangerous player.

His confidence when carrying the ball, intelligent movement and ability to take on defenders have stood out.

The next step could be earning a starting opportunity.

A run of starts would give Kgositsile the chance to show whether he can translate those promising cameos into consistent performances — and perhaps open his Pirates goalscoring account.

Pirates’ new-look squad beginning to take shape

Not every new signing has had the opportunity to establish themselves yet, but that is likely to change as the season progresses.

With a demanding campaign ahead, Ouaddou will need contributions from across his squad.

The early performances from Mokobodi, Lungu and Kgositsile suggest that Pirates may have unearthed several players capable of making a genuine impact.

For now, the competition for places is only getting stronger.

If these three continue developing at their current rate, Orlando Pirates could have some exciting new weapons at their disposal this season.
