Orlando Pirates are rewriting the record books under Abdeslam Ouaddou — and their latest away victory has put them within touching distance of a mark set by Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Buccaneers’ emphatic 4-0 victory over Kruger United on Tuesday night did more than keep them at the top of the Betway Premiership table.
It extended their unbeaten away run to 18 matches, moving Pirates beyond the previous 17-game marks recorded by Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United.
Now only Sundowns stand between Pirates and the PSL’s best-ever away unbeaten run.
PIRATES LEAPFROG CHIEFS AND SUPERSPORT
Pirates have been almost impossible to beat on the road.
According to OptaJabu, the Buccaneers have now gone 18 consecutive away matches unbeaten across all competitions, recording 14 victories and four draws during that run.
The streak stretches back to October 2025.
That takes Pirates beyond the 17-match away unbeaten runs achieved by Kaizer Chiefs on two occasions, as well as the record previously held by SuperSport United.
But there is still one benchmark ahead of them.
Mamelodi Sundowns went 20 away matches unbeaten between 2020 and 2021, meaning Pirates need just three more unbeaten away games to equal that record and four to surpass it.
The pressure — and opportunity — is now firmly on Ouaddou’s side.
OUADDOU’S PIRATES CONTINUE TO MAKE HISTORY
The away record is another indication of the transformation taking place at Orlando Pirates.
The Buccaneers have made an explosive start to the current campaign and remain unbeaten after five league matches, with just one draw alongside four victories.
That represents a significant improvement from the previous season, when Pirates lost their opening two league matches.
Their attacking numbers have also improved dramatically.
After five league games last season, Pirates had scored just six goals. This time around, they have already found the net 12 times.
The 4-0 demolition of Kruger United was another statement of their attacking strength — and ensured that Pirates retained their position at the summit.
THREE MATCHES FROM HISTORY
Pirates now have a clear target every time they travel away from home.
Three more unbeaten away matches would see them equal Sundowns’ 20-game mark, while avoiding defeat in four would give them sole possession of the PSL record.
It adds another fascinating subplot to what is already shaping up to be an impressive campaign for the Buccaneers.
With Ouaddou’s team combining an unbeaten league start with a growing reputation for consistency on the road, the question is no longer whether Pirates can break records.
