South Africa’s most talked-about reality TV host is officially back. Prominent polygamist and media personality Musa Mseleku is returning to screens to anchor the highly anticipated fifth season of Mnakwethu. The polarizing yet deeply popular reality series is locked in to premiere on Tuesday, 7 July at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic, with fresh episodes dropping weekly.
The show, which follows married men as they navigate the intense emotional and cultural waters of introducing a second wife to their current spouses, has been a lightning rod for national conversation since its debut. However, Season 5 promises to shift the paradigm by stepping outside traditional comfort zones.
A Cross-Cultural Look at Polygamy
Speaking on what sets this brand-new production apart, the Uthando Nes’thembu patriarch revealed that diversity is the driving force this time around.
“This season stands out because different cultures are being showcased when it comes to polygamy. Viewers will get to see how different communities approach these relationships and the challenges that come with them.
People in South Africa and around the world experience many of the same relationship challenges, whether they are in polygamous marriages or not. The emotions, family dynamics and life decisions featured on the show are relatable to many viewers.”
Owning the Past, Evolving the Future
Reaching a five-season milestone on South African television is no small feat, especially for a concept that routinely trends number one for its raw and controversial confrontations. Mseleku candidly acknowledged that the journey hasn’t been without its flaws.
“It has not been an easy journey and there have been challenges along the way,” Mseleku admitted. “We have made mistakes, but the vision has always remained the same.”
