Cape Town City have turned down a reported R15 million offer from Polish club Górnik Zabrze for teenage star Emile Witbooi, with the PSL club holding firm on their valuation of the highly rated midfielder.
The Polish side, co-owned by former Germany international Lukas Podolski, reportedly made an approach for Witbooi but failed to meet Cape Town City’s asking price.
City are understood to value the teenager at around €1 million (approximately R18 million–R20 million), meaning Zabrze’s proposal fell short of their expectations.
According to iDiski Times reporter Sinethemba Makonco, Górnik Zabrze were expected to return with an improved offer. However, with the Polish transfer window closing on 10 September, time is running out for the deal to materialise.
Witbooi’s stock continues to rise
The latest European interest highlights just how quickly Emile Witbooi’s reputation is growing.
Born in Kimberley on 28 August 2008, Witbooi is the son of former professional winger Surprise Ralani. He joined Cape Town City’s academy in January 2024 after developing his skills at the School of Excellence.
His performances soon attracted international attention, including an assessment with Premier League giants Chelsea in November 2024.
Just a few months later, Witbooi made his senior debut for Cape Town City against AmaZulu on 2 March 2025 at the age of just 16 years, six months and five days.
That appearance made him the youngest player to debut for Cape Town City and placed him among the youngest players ever to feature in South Africa’s top flight.
European interest grows
Witbooi’s progress has continued despite Cape Town City’s relegation from the Betway Premiership.
The youngster enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 campaign in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, where his performances earned him the Player of the Season award.
His form has attracted interest from several clubs.
Orlando Pirates previously showed serious interest but reportedly backed away after learning of Cape Town City’s valuation of around R20 million. Clubs from Major League Soccer have also monitored the teenager, although no move was completed before the MLS transfer window closed.
Now Górnik Zabrze appear to have suffered the same fate.
Cape Town City refuse to sell cheaply
For the moment, Emile Witbooi remains a Cape Town City player, with the club showing that they are prepared to reject significant offers rather than allow one of their brightest young talents to leave below their valuation.
With the Polish transfer window closing on 10 September, the coming days could determine whether Górnik Zabrze make one final attempt—or whether Witbooi stays in Cape Town and continues his development with the Citizens.
