Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly won the race for another promising defender, beating Orlando Pirates to the signing of AmaZulu youngster Wandile Dube.
With the transfer window closing on Monday, Sundowns have continued to strengthen their squad and have now added another defensive option to Miguel Cardoso’s ranks.
According to FARPost, the 22-year-old has completed a permanent move to the Tshwane giants on a three-year contract after leaving AmaZulu.
Dube joins Sundowns after medical
Dube reportedly completed his medical on Monday before joining his new teammates for training on Tuesday.
The defender becomes the latest addition to a Sundowns backline that has already been bolstered during the current transfer window.
The club has also brought in Deano van Rooyen and Thabang Matuludi, further increasing the competition for places in defence.
Dube is expected to provide additional depth on the left side, where he could compete for opportunities alongside players such as Khulumani Ndamane.
For a club facing a packed schedule, having multiple options in each position could prove valuable.

Dube’s reported move is also notable because Orlando Pirates were believed to have shown interest in the defender.
Sundowns have therefore strengthened their squad while also securing a player who had reportedly attracted attention from one of their biggest domestic rivals.
It follows the Brazilians’ acquisition of Matuludi, another defender who was reportedly on Pirates’ radar.
The growing defensive competition could give Cardoso more flexibility as Sundowns juggle domestic and continental commitments.

Sundowns are competing on several fronts, including the CAF Champions League, Betway Premiership and domestic cup competitions.
They also recently advanced in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, defeating Al Ahli 2-1 thanks to a brace from Nuno Santos.
That result underlined the demands facing Cardoso’s squad, with Sundowns needing sufficient depth to navigate a busy fixture list.
Dube’s arrival could therefore be viewed as part of a broader strategy to ensure the squad has enough options when injuries, suspensions and fixture congestion become factors.
