At the University of Johannesburg (UJ), this spirit is reflected in a diverse university community where people from different cultures, backgrounds and experiences come together to learn, collaborate and contribute to a shared future.
Celebrating diversity and inclusion
Heritage Day is about more than recognising cultural traditions. It is also a reminder of the importance of respect, inclusion and creating spaces where everyone feels valued.
UJ continues to highlight the strength that comes from bringing different perspectives together, with diversity viewed as an important part of the university’s community and identity.
The celebration also provides an opportunity to reflect on South Africa’s shared heritage and the many stories that form part of the country’s identity.
A special Heritage Day tribute from the Kruger National Park
As part of this year’s celebration, UJ’s Hoepie and the Vice-Chancellor present a special Heritage Day tribute from the Kruger National Park, one of South Africa’s most recognised natural treasures.
The tribute also commemorates 100 years of the Kruger National Park, providing a fitting setting to reflect on heritage, conservation and the diverse history that continues to shape South Africa.
