Miguel Cardoso is set to reach a major milestone when Mamelodi Sundowns face Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 final on Saturday, 10 October.
The Portuguese coach will take charge of Sundowns for the 100th official time when the two South African giants meet at 18:00, adding another significant chapter to his increasingly successful spell at Chloorkop.
The fixture is also a repeat of the 2023 MTN8 final, adding another layer of intrigue to an already highly anticipated encounter.
Cardoso’s impressive Sundowns record
Cardoso took over as Sundowns head coach on 10 December 2024, succeeding Manqoba Mngqithi.
Since arriving, the 54-year-old has established himself as one of the most successful coaches in the club’s recent history, guiding the Brazilians to a series of major honours.
His achievements include the Betway Premiership title, the CAF Champions League and the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup.
Going into his landmark 100th match, Cardoso’s record stands at 63 victories, 24 draws and just 12 defeats from his first 99 official games.
Those numbers underline the consistency Sundowns have enjoyed under his leadership.
MTN8 offers another chance for silverware
Despite his impressive collection of trophies, Cardoso is still searching for his first domestic cup title with Sundowns.
That makes Saturday’s MTN8 final particularly significant.
Standing in his way are an Orlando Pirates side that have developed a strong record in the competition and will be determined to add another trophy to their collection.
A victory over the Buccaneers would allow Cardoso to celebrate his 100th match in charge with yet another major piece of silverware — and, crucially, his first domestic cup triumph at Sundowns.
With the milestone already guaranteed, Cardoso now has the opportunity to make his 100th game one to remember.
