As anticipation reaches boiling point for Saturday’s blockbuster MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns at Moses Mabhida Stadium, all eyes are on the history books.
First contested in 1972 as the BP Top Eight Cup before spells sponsored by South African Airways (SAA Super Eight) and cellular giants MTN since 2008, this storied tournament reaches its 52nd edition. Featuring only the top eight finishers from the previous Betway Premiership campaign, the knockout competition rewards its ultimate victor handsomely with a whopping R10 million grand prize, while all participating clubs pocket R1 million.
