While most of the world was opening presents, Springbok mastermind Rassie Erasmus was opening his heart to the public. For the second year running, the World Cup-winning coach traded his tactical clipboard for a pair of walking shoes, leading hundreds of fans on a sunrise stroll along Cape Town’s Blouberg beachfront.

More Than Just a Walk
Starting at 06:00 sharp outside Doodles Beachfront Restaurant, the 6km “stappie” has quickly become a landmark event for the Cape community.
- The Distance: A brisk 6km (3km out, 3km back) along the promenade.
- The “Why”: Rassie took to X (formerly Twitter) to explain that the walk is a personal “thank you” to the fans. “This is to thank you for your passionate support and the way you carry us,” he shared.
- The Catchphrase: He closed his invitation with his signature cryptic nod to Bok fans: “Julle weet nie wat ons weet nie” (You don’t know what we know).
A Year of Total Dominance
The walk serves as a victory lap for what has been a historic year for Erasmus and the Springboks. Under his guidance in 2025, the team has solidified its place as the undisputed world #1:
- Rugby Championship Glory: Secured the 2025 title with clinical performances against the All Blacks and Wallabies.
- European Clean Sweep: A perfect 5-match end-of-year tour, leaving the Northern Hemisphere in the Boks’ wake.
- The Record Books: With 53 Tests now under his belt, Rassie sits just one game shy of Jake White’s all-time record (54) for the most Tests coached for South Africa.
- The Winningest Coach: Boasting a 75% win rate, Rassie has officially won more matches (40) than any other Springbok coach in history.
Did You Know? In December 2025, Rassie Erasmus officially signed a contract extension that will keep him at the helm of the Springboks until 2031, ensuring his “mastermind” status through the next two World Cup cycles.
