Simba SC attacker Keletso Makgalwa has set South African football talking after claiming the Kariakoo Derby in Tanzania is a better fixture than the Soweto Derby. The 29-year-old has never played in a Soweto Derby, having moved from Mamelodi Sundowns to Sekhukhune United before heading to Tanzania.
What He Said
Makgalwa spoke to iDiski Times while with his Simba teammates at a 10-day training camp in Polokwane, ahead of their clash with arch-rivals Yanga SC. He said the atmosphere of the Kariakoo Derby is hard to put into words, and that the game is tough because the fans demand so much. In his view, it is a better derby than South Africa’s Soweto Derby.
Simba Win a Historic Derby
The two sides met on Saturday in a Kariakoo Derby that, for the first time, featured two South African coaches: Steve Barker for Simba and Manqoba Mngqithi for Yanga. Simba won 2-1.
- 6′: Former Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile put Yanga ahead. He left Sundowns at the end of last season.
- Equaliser and winner: Neo Maema and Elie Mpanzu scored for Simba, with Makgalwa assisting Mpanzu.
