TS Galaxy coach and former Bafana Bafana striker Bernard Parker has publicly addressed the end of his marriage to Kacha Stepanovic, saying his personal battles with addiction played a part in the breakdown.
A statement of responsibility
Parker shared the news of their separation in a lengthy social media post, which has since been deleted. In it, he apologised for the pain he caused and took responsibility for his actions. He wrote that he had “made mistakes and struggled with personal addictions” that affected both his life and the people he loves.
He also thanked Stepanovic for standing by him, while acknowledging that he had hurt her despite her love and support.
Co-parenting remains the priority
The former Kaizer Chiefs star stressed that the split would not change their commitment to their six children. He said they will continue to co-parent, adding that life doesn’t always turn out as hoped and that he regrets his mistakes.
Stepanovic responds
In a separate post, Stepanovic appeared to answer Parker’s statement. She warned that addiction and lust can cost a person their family, career and name, and urged people to ask whether risking everything they have built is worth it. She did not name Parker directly.
Pressure at TS Galaxy
The off-field news comes at a difficult time for Parker professionally. It is unclear whether he will be on the touchline when TS Galaxy face Orlando Pirates in a Betway Premiership match at Orlando Amstel Arena on Tuesday night. The club has had a poor start under his guidance, and management are reportedly considering a new coach.
What to watch next
Fans will be looking for any club statement on Parker’s future and whether he takes charge against Pirates. Neither Parker nor Stepanovic has said more about the separation beyond their posts.
If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, speaking to a doctor, counsellor or a support helpline can be a first step.
