The mystery is finally over! Bontle Modiselle has been revealed as Spotty and crowned the winner of The Masked Singer South Africa season three.
The actress, dancer, choreographer and television personality lifted the coveted Golden Mask trophy during Saturday night’s grand finale on SABC 2, bringing an entertaining season of clues, disguises and surprise celebrity reveals to an end.
Spotty beats Mosquito in the final showdown
The finale featured a series of head-to-head battles before the competition was narrowed down to two finalists.
Spotty progressed after defeating Gogga, while Mosquito secured a place in the final by overcoming Chopsticks.
That set up the ultimate showdown between Spotty and Mosquito.
When the masks finally came off, Spotty was revealed to be none other than Bontle Modiselle, while Mosquito was unmasked as content creator, dancer, musician and television presenter Robot Boii.
The two entertainers are also known to have a close professional relationship and have collaborated on projects in the past, making the final reveal even more entertaining.
Khanyi Mbau and Judith Sephuma also revealed
The finale delivered several other major unmaskings.
Chopsticks was revealed to be actress and media personality Khanyi Mbau, while Gogga turned out to be celebrated Afro-jazz singer Judith Sephuma.
Bontle now joins the list of previous winners, following Holly Rey, who won the first season as Lollipop, and Warren Masemola, who took the season two crown as Giraffe.
Somizi wins the Golden Ear
While Bontle walked away with the main prize, judge Somizi Mhlongo also had reason to celebrate.
He claimed the season’s Golden Ear award after correctly identifying the highest number of masked celebrities, including Khanyi Mbau, Lasizwe and Judith Sephuma.
The judges enjoyed varying degrees of success throughout the final reveals.
J’Something, Somizi, Sithelo and Skhumba correctly identified some of the contestants, while other guesses missed the mark. Spotty proved particularly difficult, with only Somizi correctly identifying Bontle as the person behind the costume.
Bontle opens up after emotional victory
Following her victory, Bontle reflected on what the experience meant to her personally.
The performer said the show gave her an opportunity to feel proud of herself in a way she had struggled to do when she was younger and less confident.
Her victory therefore marked more than just another entertainment achievement.
After weeks of performances and speculation, Bontle can finally celebrate her journey from behind the Spotty mask to The Masked Singer South Africa season three champion.
