Former Kaizer Chiefs attackers Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona were on target as Scottland FC defeated Petro de Luanda 2-0 in the CAF Champions League, putting the Zimbabwean champions in a strong position ahead of the second leg.
Zimbabwean football stars Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona delivered when it mattered most, helping Scottland FC secure an important first-leg victory over Angolan giants Petro de Luanda in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round.
Playing at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Sunday, 18 October, Scottland found their breakthrough in the second half after struggling to convert their advantage into goals.
The 2-0 result gives the Zimbabwean side a valuable lead to take into the return fixture in Angola, where a place in the Champions League group stage will be at stake.
Billiat Breaks the Deadlock as Scottland Take Control
Despite playing against 10 men for almost the entire match, Scottland initially found it difficult to break through Petro de Luanda’s organised defence.
The Angolan visitors suffered an early setback when goalkeeper Hugo Marques was sent off in the opening minute for a foul on Panashe Mutimbanyoka outside the penalty area.
However, Petro remained disciplined and managed to keep Scottland at bay throughout the first half, with neither side finding the back of the net before the interval.
Scottland eventually made their numerical advantage count in the 67th minute.
Substitute Walter Musona delivered a cross that Khama Billiat converted to put the hosts ahead and give the home supporters something to celebrate.
The former Kaizer Chiefs attacker then turned provider, helping create the second goal as Scottland moved closer to securing the victory.
Knowledge Musona Adds the Finishing Touch
With 10 minutes remaining, Billiat helped set up his long-time friend Knowledge Musona, who found the net in the 80th minute to double Scottland’s advantage.
The goal capped an impressive contribution from the experienced Zimbabwean duo, whose understanding and attacking quality proved decisive.
Their performances gave Scottland breathing room ahead of the return leg and strengthened the club’s hopes of advancing to the next stage of Africa’s premier club competition.
For coach Norman Mapeza, the experience of Billiat and Musona could prove invaluable as the team pursues its continental ambitions.
Former Kaizer Chiefs Stars Make Their Experience Count
South African football fans will remember Billiat and Musona for their contributions at Kaizer Chiefs.
Billiat became a prominent attacking figure during his time with Amakhosi, while Musona also left his mark at the Soweto club, including serving as captain.
Their latest performances demonstrate the experience they bring to Scottland FC as the club looks to establish itself on the African stage.
Having won Zimbabwe’s domestic league, Scottland are now chasing a place in the CAF Champions League group stage, where they would have an opportunity to test themselves against some of the continent’s strongest clubs.
Scottland One Step Closer to the Champions League Group Stage
Although the 2-0 victory puts Scottland in a favourable position, the job is not yet complete.
Petro de Luanda will have home advantage in the second leg and must find a way to overturn the deficit if they are to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Scottland, meanwhile, will aim to remain defensively disciplined while making the most of their attacking opportunities.
With Billiat and Musona showing their quality in the first leg, the Zimbabwean champions will travel to Angola believing they have a genuine opportunity to progress.
