Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly offered Sibongiseni Mthethwa a one-year contract with an option for another season as they look to keep Ox at Naturena until 2028.

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly preparing to reward midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa for his recent performances with a new contract that could keep him at Naturena until June 2028.

The 32-year-old has become an important figure in the Amakhosi midfield, using his experience and physical presence to help bring stability to the team.

His improved form has reportedly convinced the club to offer him an opportunity to extend his stay with the Soweto giants.

Chiefs Want to Retain Mthethwa

According to SoccerBeat, Kaizer Chiefs have offered Mthethwa a one-year contract, with an option to extend for a further season.

If the proposed agreement is finalised and the additional year is activated, the midfielder could remain at the club until June 2028.

Mthethwa has impressed alongside Lebohang Maboe and Sphesihle Ndlovu, with the trio helping to strengthen Chiefs’ options in the middle of the park.

Since arriving from Stellenbosch FC in September 2023, he has made more than 50 appearances for Amakhosi. He was also part of the squad that lifted the Nedbank Cup in 2025.

Ox Has Fought His Way Back Into the Team

Mthethwa’s journey at Naturena has been far from straightforward.

After joining Chiefs with high expectations, the midfielder struggled to make a consistent impact during his first season. Injuries disrupted his progress and limited his opportunities to establish himself in the starting line-up.

He also found regular playing time difficult to secure under former head coach Nasreddine Nabi.

However, his situation changed when interim coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze gave him another opportunity to prove his value.

Mthethwa responded positively, gradually becoming a regular member of the team and building a productive understanding with Maboe in midfield.

New Deal Could Keep Mthethwa at Naturena Until 2028

The reported offer reflects Chiefs’ desire to maintain experience and consistency in their squad.

At 32, Mthethwa remains an influential presence, and his recent performances suggest he still has an important role to play in the club’s plans.

Although the reported contract offer has not been confirmed as a completed deal, it could be a welcome development for supporters who have watched the midfielder work his way back into the team.

Chiefs are now preparing for Sunday’s Carling Knockout clash against Siwelele, where Mthethwa will hope to continue making his contribution.
