Kabelo Mabalane ends his 11-year solo music hiatus with “Everybody Needs Somebody,” featuring The Arrows, ahead of his forthcoming album Kabelo.

After more than a decade away from the solo music spotlight, Kabelo Mabalane is ready to begin a new chapter.

The South African kwaito veteran, pastor and wellness advocate has announced the release of “Everybody Needs Somebody,” a new single featuring Durban pop-rock duo The Arrows. The track is scheduled to arrive on 3 September 2026, marking Mabalane’s first major solo release since Immortal Vol. 3 in 2015.

For Mabalane, however, the return is about more than simply releasing new music. It represents the culmination of 11 years filled with personal growth, family, ministry, wellness advocacy and creative work away from the public eye.

“11 years later… it’s finally here!” Mabalane shared in an emotional social media announcement. He reflected on the twists and turns of the journey, adding that although there had been “stops, starts, detours and a lot of life in between,” he had promised his audience new music — and was now keeping that promise.

“Everybody Needs Somebody” will serve as the first official single from Mabalane’s forthcoming tenth solo album, Kabelo. The project is expected to arrive in the coming months and appears set to showcase an artist shaped by experiences far beyond the recording studio.

Recent glimpses of the album have pointed towards a sound that blends Mabalane’s musical roots with gospel influences, orchestral textures and contemporary collaborations. Artists including Khaya Mthethwa and JazziQ have been linked to the wider project, suggesting an album that could bridge Mabalane’s established identity with the person and artist he has become.

Mabalane has previously described the long wait by saying the music was “being prepared in the wings because timing is everything.” That perspective captures the spirit of his comeback: rather than attempting to recreate the past, he appears determined to introduce audiences to a more mature version of himself.

The collaboration with The Arrows is particularly fitting for the new chapter. The Durban duo’s melodic, jazz-leaning pop and faith-inspired approach complements a song centred on connection, community and the idea that nobody should have to navigate life alone.

For fans who first encountered Mabalane as Bouga Luv and through TKZee anthems such as “Shibobo” and “Dlala Mapantsula,” the announcement carries plenty of nostalgia. But this comeback is not simply a trip down memory lane.

It is a statement that Mabalane still has more to say.

With Kabelo positioned as his tenth solo album, the forthcoming single offers the first glimpse into a body of work shaped by a very different season of his life. His stated ambition is to create music capable of outliving the moment and carrying hope into people’s stories.

After 11 years of waiting, Kabelo Mabalane is stepping back into the spotlight — not to repeat his history, but to add another chapter to it.

“Everybody Needs Somebody” drops on 3 September 2026.
