Orlando Pirates have loaned Daniel Msendami and Abdoulaye Mariko to Marumo Gallants for the season as the Buccaneers reshape their squad.

Orlando Pirates have continued reshaping their squad ahead of the new campaign, with Daniel Msendami and Abdoulaye Mariko heading to Marumo Gallants on season-long loan deals.

The Buccaneers confirmed that both midfielders will spend the current campaign at Gallants as Pirates make room for a new generation of talent competing for places in the first team.

Msendami and Mariko arrived at Pirates with plenty of promise, but neither managed to establish himself as a regular under former coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

Msendami and Mariko move on for regular football

Msendami made just 11 appearances across all competitions last season, while Mariko featured 12 times for the Soweto giants.

For Mariko in particular, opportunities were limited, with many of his appearances coming from the bench.

With competition for places increasing at Pirates, regular first-team football was always going to be difficult to guarantee.

The Buccaneers have continued to add exciting young players to their squad, further increasing the pressure on fringe players to find playing time elsewhere.

Among the emerging options are Simphiwe Masilela, Mpho Padime and Mohau Nkota, while the return of former academy player Bheki Mabuza has added another attacking option.

Rather than remaining on the sidelines at Pirates, Msendami and Mariko will now have an opportunity to play regularly and prove themselves at Gallants.

Pirates confirm season-long loan deals

Pirates confirmed the moves as part of the wider transfer activity involving Bheki Mabuza.

The Buccaneers completed Mabuza’s permanent return from Gallants, while Msendami and Mariko moved in the opposite direction on loan.

The club confirmed that both players will remain with Gallants for the season.

For Pirates, the arrangement creates additional squad space while allowing two players who struggled for regular minutes to continue their development through consistent competitive football.

For Msendami and Mariko, the challenge is now straightforward: perform at Gallants, play regularly and give Pirates a reason to reconsider their futures when the loan spell ends.

Can they force their way back into the Pirates picture?

Loan moves can be an important part of a young player’s development, particularly when opportunities at a big club are limited.

Msendami and Mariko now have an entire season to regain momentum, build confidence and show that they can compete at the highest level of South African football.

Do you think Orlando Pirates made the right decision by sending Msendami and Mariko to Marumo Gallants?
