The atmosphere was electric at the University of Cape Town (UCT) on February 12th as the annual DSA Welcome Festival transformed the Green Mile into a vibrant hub of energy, opportunity, and community spirit.

Hosted by the Department of Student Affairs (DSA), this massive orientation event welcomed hundreds of first-year students, introducing them to the rich tapestry of university life beyond the lecture hall.

Discovering the UCT Experience

The festival served as a one-stop-shop for newcomers to explore the diverse opportunities available to them:

  • Student Societies: Showcasing cultural, creative, and career-aligned organizations.
  • Support Services: Direct engagement with Student Wellness, Financial Aid, Residence Life, and Student Governance.
  • Extramural Activities: Highlighting the vibrant sports and creative scene on campus.

High Energy & Executive Engagement

The energy remained high throughout the day with performances from local DJs and talented student artists, complemented by a popular array of food trucks.

Adding to the excitement, UCT Vice-Chancellor Professor Mosa Moshabela was spotted mixing and mingling with the new students. DSA Executive Director, Pura Mgolombane, encouraged the newcomers to lay strong foundations for their future careers, offering practical tips for flourishing both academically and personally during their UCT journey.
