Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Kenny Niemach has called on Amakhosi supporters to show patience with the club’s forwards as new coach Fernando Da Cruz works to find the right attacking formula.
Kaizer Chiefs have started the season with questions surrounding their finishing, with the club’s strikers yet to consistently find the back of the net.
While Flavio Da Silva has managed to make an impact in front of goal, the rest of the Glamour Boys’ attacking options have struggled to produce regular goals.
Interestingly, much of Chiefs’ early scoring has come from midfield, increasing the pressure on the forwards to step up.
Niemach calls for patience
Niemach believes supporters should resist the temptation to write off players too quickly, particularly while a new coach is still implementing his ideas.
The former Chiefs striker says Da Cruz needs time to assess his available forwards and determine which combinations can bring the best out of the squad.
Rather than constantly adding more strikers, Niemach believes the focus should be on improving the players already at the club.
The former Amakhosi star also warned against making premature judgments about new signings before they have had enough time to settle and adapt to the coach’s methods.
Chiefs need to find the right attacking formula
One of Da Cruz’s biggest challenges will be deciding which striker can lead the line consistently and which combinations work best in his system.
Niemach’s view is that Chiefs should avoid unnecessary rotation and give the coach the opportunity to develop his preferred attacking setup.
For Amakhosi supporters, however, patience could be difficult to maintain if the goals continue to prove hard to come by.
Chiefs have ambitions of competing for major honours, including the Betway Premiership title, and goals will inevitably be crucial if they are to challenge at the top of the table.
Who should make way?
With several attacking options available, the debate over selection is unlikely to disappear anytime soon.
