Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly been offered Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana after his departure from Espérance and the collapse of a proposed Wydad move.

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly been offered the opportunity to sign Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana following his departure from Tunisian club Espérance Sportive de Tunis.

The 27-year-old attacker is said to be a free agent after his stint abroad, potentially opening the door for a return to South African football. However, it remains unclear whether Amakhosi will pursue a deal, with no agreement confirmed at this stage.

Mokwana previously established himself as one of the exciting attacking talents in the Premier Soccer League during his time at Sekhukhune United. His performances earned him a move to Tunisia in 2024, giving him an opportunity to further his career outside South Africa.

Mokwana Linked With a Move to Naturena

According to SABC Sport journalist Mazola Molefe, Mokwana has been offered to Kaizer Chiefs after a proposed move to Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club reportedly collapsed.

Molefe indicated that the winger’s availability could present an opportunity for Chiefs, although the club’s final decision remains unknown.

The reported development comes as Chiefs continue to assess their attacking options under head coach Fernando Da Cruz.

The coach has previously indicated a desire to strengthen the team’s attacking department, meaning an experienced international winger could be worth considering.

Nevertheless, being offered a player does not necessarily mean a club will proceed with negotiations or complete a signing.

Former PSL Midfielder Backs Mokwana to Succeed at Chiefs

Former Premier Soccer League midfielder Mark Haskins believes Mokwana has the quality to strengthen the Amakhosi squad.

Haskins was impressed by the winger’s performances at Sekhukhune United and suggested that he could make a valuable contribution if Chiefs decide to bring him to Naturena.

He also expressed surprise that the attacker left South Africa without attracting stronger interest from the country’s leading clubs.

Mokwana’s previous PSL experience could be an advantage if he returns to local football. Having already demonstrated his ability in South Africa, he would not need the same adjustment period as a player arriving from a completely unfamiliar league.

However, his potential impact would ultimately depend on his fitness, form and ability to adapt to Da Cruz’s tactical approach.

Where Would Mokwana Fit Into the Chiefs Squad?

Kaizer Chiefs already have several players competing for positions in the wide attacking areas, including Faiz Abrahams, Wandile Duba, Pule Mmodi, Asanele Velebayi and Langelihle Phili.

Mokwana could provide additional competition on the right wing, potentially giving the coach another option when selecting his starting lineup or making changes during matches.

His experience with Bafana Bafana and his previous performances in the PSL could also add depth to the squad.

For Chiefs, the decision would involve assessing whether Mokwana offers something different from the players already available and whether a deal fits the club’s recruitment plans.

With the season underway, strengthening the attack could prove important as Amakhosi look to remain competitive across their campaigns.

Will Kaizer Chiefs Sign Elias Mokwana?

Mokwana’s reported availability has created a possible transfer opportunity for Kaizer Chiefs, but supporters will have to wait for clarity on the club’s intentions.

The winger has attracted support from Haskins, who believes he could add value to the team. His experience at Sekhukhune United and international exposure make him an intriguing option if Chiefs decide to pursue the move.

For now, the link remains a reported development rather than a confirmed transfer.

Should Kaizer Chiefs sign Elias Mokwana? Would the Bafana Bafana winger improve Amakhosi’s attack, or should the club focus on other positions? Share your thoughts in the comments.
