Nadia Nakai has opened up about her first meeting with Toss, revealing that his calm energy, genuine personality and grounded nature immediately made an impression on her.
Nadia Nakai says she knew there was something different about Toss from the moment they first met.
Speaking to SA Hip Hop Mag, the rapper reflected on her first encounter with the Toss and explained why she quickly described him as her “favourite person.”
Nadia Nakai Was Drawn To Toss’s Energy
According to Nadia, it was Toss’s personality and presence that initially stood out to her. Although she did not know him well at the time, she said his aura immediately made her feel comfortable.
“I think it’s energy, because obviously I didn’t know him that well the first time I met him. It was our first encounter, but his spirit, like, the aura that he gives, it’s just, it’s calming. It feels safe. It feels genuine, you know?”
Nadia was already familiar with Toss as a prominent figure in South African music, but meeting him personally gave her a different impression of the artist behind the public persona.
She explained that despite his success and status, Toss did not carry himself in a way that made people around him feel uncomfortable or insignificant.
‘He Doesn’t Make People Feel Smaller’
For Nadia, Toss’s ability to remain grounded despite his influence was one of the qualities that immediately caught her attention.
“When I met him, I already saw him as this, like, superstar, but he never made me feel like he was, like, so caught up in the source of who he is,” she said.
The rapper also acknowledged that Toss appears fully aware of his influence within the music industry, but said he does not use that position to make others feel less important.
“And I feel like he’s 100% aware of who he is and the impact he has on the game, but he doesn’t make people feel smaller around him, you know? And I really, like, like that,” Nadia added.
Nadia Says Their Energies Connected
That combination of confidence, humility and authenticity appears to have shaped Nadia’s early impression of Toss.
Rather than pointing to a single moment, she described their connection as something that came naturally from the energy they shared.
“So I was like, he’s my favourite person. It’s just both energies,” Nadia said.
Her comments offer another glimpse into the relationship between the two artists, whose personal connection has also become part of the story surrounding their creative collaboration.
