Stellenbosch FC could soon have three new international options available for their Betway Premiership campaign, with coach Steve Hunt confirming that the club is waiting on work-permit clearance for two Nigerian recruits.
Ghanaian goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi has already received the necessary clearance and is available for selection, while Nigerian duo Arigo Obus Godspower and Lateef Kazeem Adeyanju are still waiting for their work permits.
Their arrival could give Hunt additional options as Stellenbosch look to strengthen their squad and increase competition for places.
Nigerian duo ready to make an impact
Hunt has already identified roles for both Nigerian players.
Lateef Kazeem Adeyanju, a left-footed winger, is expected to provide an option on the left flank, while Arigo Obus Godspower will compete for a place in the attack.
Kazeem has reportedly impressed during training, while Arigo’s performances in pre-season have particularly caught the coach’s attention.
“The one’s obviously a left winger; he’s a left-footed player, Kazeem. He’s really done well at training, and obviously the other guy, Arigo, is a striker,” Hunt said.
The coach believes Arigo can offer another option on the final line of attack and potentially rotate with Bradley.
“He’ll give us options… Good in the air, he runs, he’s scored a lot of goals in pre-season, but obviously hasn’t been able to use him,” Hunt added.
With the striker already having impressed during pre-season, Hunt’s immediate challenge is integrating him into the team once the administrative process is completed.
“It’s just work permits now,” he said.
Hunt sees more than squad depth
The Stellenbosch coach’s comments suggest that the new arrivals could compete for significant playing time rather than simply serve as additional squad depth.
Hunt believes several players currently unavailable to him could make a strong claim for regular places once they return or receive clearance.
“If you look at our squad, there’s certainly four or five that will start in our team that are not playing. And it’s been unfortunate,” he explained.
He specifically mentioned Mosa Lebusa, Bafana Mthethwa, Kazeem and Arigo among the players he expects to strengthen his starting options.
For Stellenbosch, the completion of the outstanding work permits could therefore expand Hunt’s tactical choices at an important stage of the season.
Agbasi already available
While the Nigerian duo await clearance, Solomon Agbasi is already eligible for selection.
The Ghanaian goalkeeper becomes an additional option between the posts, while the potential arrival of Kazeem and Arigo into competitive action could give Hunt greater flexibility in the attacking areas.
For now, Stellenbosch must wait for the necessary paperwork.
Once the permits are approved, Hunt will have the opportunity to unleash his new Nigerian recruits and assess how they fit into his plans for the Betway Premiership.
