Tyla once again proved why she has become one of the most closely watched stars on the red carpet, arriving at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards in a striking snakeskin-inspired ensemble.
The South African superstar attended the ceremony at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater on 27 September, where she also took on presenting duties during the Snoop Dogg-hosted event.
But, as usual, it was her fashion choice that quickly grabbed attention.
Tyla embraces bold snakeskin fashion
Tyla wore a daring two-piece creation from Nigerian-British designer Mowalola Ogunlesi’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection.
The outfit featured a faux blue-snakeskin bra top, a matching pencil skirt and coordinating pumps. Styled by Ronnie Hart, the look put the singer’s midriff front and centre while giving the classic red-carpet silhouette a distinctly modern edge.
The outfit also tapped into one of the biggest fashion trends of this year’s VMAs, with bra-inspired tops appearing in several celebrity looks.
The trend followed the attention surrounding Prada’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection, which showcased a similar silhouette during Milan Fashion Week.
Tyla, however, brought her own distinctive twist to the trend with the eye-catching snakeskin finish.
Another memorable VMAs fashion moment
The latest look adds to what has become a strong VMAs fashion history for the Grammy-winning singer.
At the 2025 ceremony, Tyla transformed a vintage Chanel Spring/Summer 1993 corset top into a micro-dress, creating another headline-making red-carpet moment.
That evening was also significant for her music career, as she collected three Moon Persons, including Best New Artist.
A year earlier, Tyla opted for a yellow string dress from Area’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, once again choosing a look that stood out from the crowd.
Her fashion choices have increasingly become part of her identity as a global artist, with the singer regularly using major events to experiment with bold silhouettes and unexpected designs.
