Actress and television personality Amanda Du-Pont has found herself the subject of online speculation as attention intensifies around Mpumalanga taxi boss Oupa “Bafana” Sindane and his appearance before the Madlanga Commission.
Claims circulating online have linked Du-Pont romantically to Sindane, but those claims have not been independently established by the available reporting. There is also no verified evidence that Du-Pont is involved in, or has knowledge of, the criminal allegations facing the taxi boss.
The renewed scrutiny comes as Sindane faces questions before the commission over matters relating to alleged criminal syndicates, his associations and communications contained in cellphone records.
Sindane faces questions at Madlanga Commission
Sindane was subpoenaed to appear before the Madlanga Commission but initially failed to attend, with his legal team seeking a postponement.
His lawyers cited medical concerns and a pending High Court application challenging the commission’s subpoena and its use of messages extracted from his cellphone.
The commission subsequently rejected his postponement application and ordered that his evidence be heard on 28 September “in whatever format”.
On Monday, the Gauteng High Court also struck Sindane’s urgent application off the roll, with a punitive costs order, according to reporting from the Sowetan.
Serious allegations surrounding the taxi boss
The commission has been examining allegations involving Sindane and his links within the taxi industry.
Sindane is also a co-accused in a separate criminal matter involving allegations of extortion and money laundering. According to reporting on the case, prosecutors allege that more than R2 million in protection fees were demanded from a businessman between 2022 and 2025. Sindane denies the allegations and remains presumed innocent unless convicted.
The commission has also been examining cellphone communications involving Sindane and fellow taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni, including references to “izinkabi”. The meaning and context of those communications have been disputed during the hearings.
Why Amanda Du-Pont’s name is circulating
Du-Pont’s name has become part of online discussion because of unverified claims about a possible relationship with Sindane.
However, there is an important distinction between social-media speculation and evidence presented before the commission.
There is currently no verified indication in the commission material cited above that Du-Pont has been implicated in Sindane’s alleged criminal activities, nor that investigators have accused her of participating in any wrongdoing.
