South African football has another teenage talent attracting serious attention, and Emile Witbooi’s latest exploits with Amajita have only increased the excitement around his future.
The 18-year-old Cape Town City attacker played an important role as South Africa successfully defended the COSAFA U20 Championship in Mozambique.
Amajita completed a perfect tournament, winning all five of their matches before defeating the hosts 2-1 in the final to lift the trophy for a second consecutive year.

His club commitments even delayed his arrival at the Amajita camp in Mozambique, with coach Raymond Mdaka confirming that an agreement had been reached with Cape Town City.

Chelsea Assessment Added to Growing Interest
Witbooi’s potential has reportedly been noticed outside South Africa as well.
The youngster previously spent time on assessment at Chelsea, while his representatives have confirmed interest from the English club.
Reports have also suggested that playing in Europe remains an ambition for the attacker, although regulations governing international transfers of young players have been an important consideration.
His performances in Mozambique are likely to add further attention to his development.
Orlando Pirates and European Links
Witbooi has also been linked with a potential move to Orlando Pirates.
Reports previously suggested that the Soweto giants had explored the possibility of signing the youngster. However, Cape Town City chairman John Comitis subsequently dismissed suggestions that formal negotiations had taken place.
There have also been reports concerning a potential asking price of around €1 million, which was said to have affected Pirates’ interest.
More recently, European clubs have been linked with the player, including reports of interest from Bayern Munich.
For now, however, Witbooi remains a Cape Town City player and the club continues to control his immediate future.

Witbooi’s COSAFA success is only the latest chapter in what has already been an intriguing rise.
South Africa’s U20 title also secured qualification for the 2027 Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Ghana, giving Witbooi another major international tournament in which to showcase his development.
