Liverpool supporters in KwaZulu-Natal have a new reason to celebrate as the club prepares to open its third official standalone store in South Africa.
The new Official Liverpool FC Store at Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga, Durban, opens its doors on Thursday, 1 October, with a special launch celebration taking place on Saturday, 3 October.
The Durban store follows the opening of Liverpool FC stores at Canal Walk in Cape Town and Mall of Africa in Johannesburg earlier this year.
For supporters in KwaZulu-Natal, the new outlet means easier access to official Liverpool merchandise without having to travel to another province.
Lucas Leiva to join Durban celebrations
Liverpool legend Lucas Leiva will be one of the headline guests at Saturday’s official opening.
The former Brazilian midfielder spent 10 years at Anfield between 2007 and 2017, making more than 300 appearances for the Reds.
Leiva will meet supporters and sign player cards during the celebrations. Fans will also have the chance to see the Premier League trophy on display.
More than 2,500 supporters have reportedly registered for tickets to the opening event, highlighting the excitement among Liverpool fans ahead of the launch.
Three days of Liverpool celebrations
The opening weekend will feature a series of activities for supporters:
Thursday, 1 October:
The new store officially opens, with an Anfield-themed giveaway also launching.
Friday, 2 October:
Liverpool fans can take part in a fun run through Durban, with supporters encouraged to wear their LFC shirts.
Saturday, 3 October:
The official launch celebration will feature Lucas Leiva, the Premier League trophy, a DJ, raffles and special opening discounts.
Liverpool expands its South African presence
Liverpool FC senior vice president of merchandising, Lee Dwerryhouse, said the club was delighted to strengthen its retail presence in South Africa.
With official stores now in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, Liverpool is bringing its merchandise and matchday culture closer to supporters across the country.
