Football fans heading to the Moses Mabhida Stadium for Saturday’s blockbuster MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns can breathe a sigh of relief. The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) has announced extended train and shuttle services to help supporters beat the traffic and travel safely to the 18:00 kickoff.
Key Travel Details and Schedules
PRASA confirmed that trains will run along major regional routes—including uMlazi, KwaMashu, Pinetown, Crossmoor, and South Coast corridors—with affordable return tickets priced at just R20.
To ensure seamless transit on matchday, the rail agency has structured a comprehensive timeline:
- Getting to the Stadium: Trains across all five corridors will run straight to Moses Mabhida Station until 17:30.
- Dedicated Shuttles: A specialized shuttle service will run between Durban Station and Moses Mabhida Station every 30 minutes from 13:00 to 18:00.
- Return Trips: Corridors will resume services at 20:00 and run until 22:00, while the stadium-to-Durban shuttle will operate from 22:00 to 22:30 for connecting passengers.
Park-and-Ride Options
For fans choosing to drive part of the way, limited park-and-ride facilities will be available at Durban Station, uMlazi Station, and KwaMnyandu Mall for R50 per vehicle.
PRASA has strongly encouraged supporters to plan ahead and make use of the rail network:
“Supporters are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and travel by train to avoid traffic congestion and parking constraints around Moses Mabhida Stadium.”
Full train schedules are available on PRASA’s official digital platforms.
