South African singer-songwriter Azana has secured a place in the Miss South Africa 2026 Top 12 finalists, bringing her closer to the national crown while opening the door to a bigger mission: improving conditions for learners and communities in need.
The Miss South Africa Organisation announced its 12 finalists on 28 October 2026. The grand finale is scheduled to take place at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on Saturday, 14 November 2026, where the next Miss South Africa will be crowned.
However, the competition is about more than winning a title. All 12 finalists are expected to become Empower Youth Africa (EYA) ambassadors, giving them a platform to champion meaningful causes and support positive change in their communities.
Azana Wants to Use Her Platform for Community Development
For Azana, joining Miss South Africa is an opportunity to bring greater attention to the challenges faced by the community she calls home.
During an earlier conversation with television presenter Minnie Dlamini on South Africa: The Mandate, the 26-year-old singer explained why the competition’s community-focused approach appealed to her.
She said the Empower Youth Africa campaign would allow her to speak openly about challenges affecting her community and help drive change where it is needed most.
Azana’s motivation is rooted in her own experience of returning home and spending a year there. During that period, she started a choir at Phuzulwazi Secondary School, where her passion for music exposed her to the difficult conditions learners face.
Inside the Challenges Facing Phuzulwazi Secondary School
While working with learners at the school, Azana became aware of several infrastructure and resource challenges, including a lack of flushing toilets, printers and sufficient desks. She also highlighted damaged windows and unfinished flooring.
She explained that some learners walk for about an hour to reach school, only to arrive at an environment where basic facilities remain inadequate.
The experience appears to have strengthened her determination to use her influence to help improve the school and create better learning conditions for its pupils.
Azana Hopes to Attract Support for Her Community
The singer believes that her public profile could help connect Phuzulwazi Secondary School and the wider community with sponsors and organisations willing to provide much-needed resources.
For Azana, becoming Miss South Africa would offer an even greater opportunity to mobilise support and help address the challenges affecting young people.
Her journey brings together music, community involvement and a desire to create lasting change. Rather than focusing solely on the glamour associated with pageantry, she is highlighting the everyday realities faced by learners who need better facilities and opportunities.
Miss South Africa 2026 Finale Approaches
With a place in the Top 12 secured, Azana now heads towards the Miss South Africa 2026 finale on 14 November.
Whether or not she takes home the crown, her story has already drawn attention to the challenges at Phuzulwazi Secondary School and her ambition to help improve conditions for its learners.
As the finalists prepare for the big night, Azana’s journey serves as a reminder that a public platform can be used not only to inspire, but also to bring communities, sponsors and potential supporters together around a meaningful cause.
Can Azana turn her Miss South Africa journey into lasting change for her community? Her supporters will be watching closely as the competition moves towards the finale.
