The race for the 2026/27 Betway Premiership Golden Boot is gathering momentum, with AmaZulu FC striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya emerging as the leading contender after an impressive start to the campaign.
Ngwenya currently tops the scoring charts with nine goals after 10 league matches, opening up a four-goal advantage over his closest challengers.
The AmaZulu forward has been one of the standout performers this season, with his impressive scoring form putting him firmly in the spotlight as the battle for the league’s top individual honour intensifies.
Moremi and Xulu lead the chasing pack
Orlando Pirates winger Tshepang Moremi and Richards Bay forward Nqaba Xulu are currently joint-second on the goalscoring charts, having registered five goals apiece.
Both players will be hoping to maintain their scoring momentum and close the gap on Ngwenya as the season progresses.
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns striker and Bafana Bafana international Iqraam Rayners is also among the leading contenders.
Rayners has scored four goals, the same tally as Milford FC’s Mvelo Zikakayo and TS Galaxy forward Victor Letsoalo.
With plenty of football still to be played, the Golden Boot race remains open, although Ngwenya has given himself a significant early advantage.
